RefStuff Beginnings and Vision Statement
The main purpose and vision of the RefStuff brand is simple – to create a world leading brand and to revolutionise the way sporting matches are refereed and in particular to enhance and improve the management of the matches and how they are scored.
There are currently over 5 million registered football referees on the FIFA database worldwide. In addition, referees and umpires of many other sports plus sports coaches and teachers total a potential customer sales base well in excess of 50 million!
RefStuff is the brainchild of founder, entrepreneur and inventor Kevin Houghton from Preston, Lancashire, UK.
Houghton’s background is previously running a very successful sports coaching company, Teamtheme which was franchised nationwide – often imitated but never equalled, and achieving sales turnover of almost £2 million from Oct 2001 through Sept 2014.
Combined with his extensive experience within the sports business and also being an ex football referee himself, his belief, passion and love for the products, development and the game is perfectly suited to this business whilst maintaining focus on product range, supply, longevity, global sales partnerships and ongoing further product development.
Working partnerships were formed with the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) in both Preston and Burnley who’s Design, Research and Innovation Clinics helped to assist in the early stages with the RefScorer project in design and prototype development, and the very first original RefScorer prototype was produced at the local High School; Penwortham Priory Academy in Sept 2016 (see video below).

RefStuff products currently available or in development include watches, sports scorers, gloves, wallets, game pads, flags, scorecards, notebooks, match sheets and a clothing line, as well as developing the RefScorer to cater for other sports like Basketball, Rugby and American Football.
